Shocking news from ABC NEWS.com:

John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair with a novice filmmaker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.
Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.
Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby's birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.
A former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has said he was the father of the child.

According to friends of Hunter, Edwards met her at a New York city bar in 2006. His political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce campaign website documentaries despite her lack of experience.
Edwards said the affair began during the campaign after she was hired. Hunter traveled with Edwards around the country and to Africa.
Edwards said his wife, Elizabeth, and others in his family became aware of the affair in 2006.

Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife's cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter. Elizabeth Edwards has since been diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease.
When the National Enquirer first reported the alleged Edwards-Hunter affair last October 11, Edwards, his campaign staff and Hunter vociferously denounced the report.
"The story is false, it's completely untrue, it's ridiculous," Edwards told reporters then.
He repeated his denials just two weeks ago.
Edwards today admitted the National Enquirer was correct when it reported he had visited Hunter at the Beverly Hills Hilton last month.
The former Senator said his wife had not known about the meeting.

Since becoming pregnant, Hunter has lived under assumed names in a series of expensive homes in North Carolina and, more recently, in Santa Barbara, California.

Edwards denied paying any money to Hunter to keep her from going public but said it was possible some of his friends or supporters may have made payments without telling him.

He said he would ask questions about any possible arrangement.

This quote, from Deputy Communications Director Michael Goldfarb of the McCain campaign, really freaks me out. He was referring to the idea that Congress as a co-equal branch of government, and the fact that the founding fathers didn't want one branch in charge:
"True enough, but they sought an energetic executive with near dictatorial power in pursuing foreign policy and war. So no, the Constitution does not put Congress on an equal footing with the executive in matters of national security."

What?! Near dictatorial powers?! Talk about being unpatriotic, this guy doesn't even believe in the Constitution. What he needs to do is read the historic document, and get a history lesson. But since the President would have unlimited power during war, maybe when Obama is President, he could be declared an enemy combatant, be sent to a secret CIA prison, have his right of Habeas Corpus suspended, and be waterboarded.

NBC's Washington Bureau Chief and moderator of "Meet The Press", Tim Russert, died yesterday of a heart attack. His death was a shock to everyone in news and politics. He was one of the most respected journalists, and was revered for his tough questioning of public officials. He was known to be a very dedicated father, husband, and son. He even dedicated two books to fatherhood. Many members of the media and politics reacted to this shocking story. CLICK HERE for the reaction from various journalists. I watched Tim Russert nearly every Sunday on Meet the Press, and saw him throughout the election coverage on MSNBC. I always looked forward to watching his tough interviews. His analysis of the latest poll numbers and explanation of election news was fantastic. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. A special edition of Meet the Press with Tom Brokaw will air this Sunday. I'll post it here when it's available.

In the big news today, Hillary Clinton withdrew from the Democratic Race and fully endorsed Barack Obama. She urged her supporters to back Obama in November. I hope they listen. I never hated Hillary, I just disliked her more as the race dragged on. But I respect her. Bill on the other hand, has lost my respect once he started playing dirty.

After the loss of Hillary Clinton, her supporters are really pissed off. Why? Because according to them, anyone who opposed her is a sexist (if every Obama supporter is a sexist, can't you also say that every Clinton supporter is a racist?).

And along with the vast right-wing conspiracy, there's a vast left-wing conspiracy too. It's full of liberal bloggers, anti-war protesters, Democratic Party officials, Obama supporters, Obama himself, and of course...THE EVIL MEDIA. The most evil news organization? Fox News? Nope. CBS? No. CNN? Yeah right. It's MSNBC. That's right, MSNBC. The home of Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Tim Russert, etc.

There's even a new website up called womenboycottmsnbc.com. It's full of angry supporters who believe that she lost because everyone was sexist.

The fact is that Hillary didn't lose because of her gender, she lost because of a terrible campaign strategy. She didn't contest caucuses and thought it'll all be over by February 5th. Remember, in 2007, she was INEVITABLE. EVERYONE THOUGHT SHE WAS GOING TO BE THE NOMINEE. I think that being a woman actually helped her a lot. If it weren't for women, she probably wouldn't have won the really close contests earlier on. She won New Hampshire because of white women, if they didn't turn out for her, she would've lost NH and the whole race much earlier. Remember: women make up over half of the Democratic Party.

The bottom line is that Hillary lost because of her own mistakes. She lost because of Bill Clinton. She lost because of her advisers, like Mark Penn. She lost because Obama ran a better campaign, had a better message, and had better organization. She lost because Obama can inspire. The fact is that it's OVER. The Dem race is over, and all Dems should unite against John McCain. It's time to put a Democrat in the oval office in 2009.

Here are some numbers from a Pew study that show the percentage of positive news stories on the candidates from each of the cable news networks. Check out MSNBC's numbers:

"69% of the assertions about Obama on Fox News Channel were positive, versus 54% for Clinton. And both far outdistanced Sen. John McCain, with only 45%.

On CNN, Clinton was the clear winner, with 70% positives versus 59% for Obama and 49% for McCain.

The most even-handed, at least toward the Democrats, was MSNBC, the researchers concluded, with 72% positives for Clinton and 70% for Obama (McCain got 53%)."

Obama To Restore Constitution

According to Reuters a couple of weeks ago, Democratic Nominee (sounds great, doesn't it?) Barack Obama promised to work with his Attorney General (I hope it's John Edwards) and overturn every law or executive order that he sees as unconstitutional. The concern over our civil liberties and Constitution is a VERY important issue, and it's often ignored by many politicians. I'm very happy that Obama's going to confront this issue head on and he'll do what's right. It's time to restore democracy to this government. Now THAT'S patriotic.

If elected president, Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama said one of the first things he wants to do is ensure the constitutionality of all the laws and executive orders passed while Republican President George W. Bush has been in office.

History was made this week when Barack Obama clinched the Democratic nomination. I still can't believe that the long Democratic race is over. I'm so proud to have supported Obama's campaign and I plan to volunteer for him over the summer. Now all Dems have to unite and get ready for the 5-month journey to the general election. It's going to be interesting.

Here's Obama's victory speech from Tuesday night. It was the best speech he has ever given. 18,000 people were in that arena that night, with thousands more outside. In a nice slap in the face, the speech was given in St.Paul, Minnesota--the sight of the Republican National Convention in September.

Biden Slams Bush/McCain/Lieberman Policy

In a WSJ editorial a couple of weeks ago, Sen. Joe Biden rightfully slammed the idiotic policy proposed by McCain and supported by Joe Lieberman towards Iran. It's a must-read article (Let me say again: OBAMA/BIDEN TICKET). Here's the full piece:

"On Wednesday, Joe Lieberman wrote on this page that the Democratic Party he and I grew up in has drifted far from the foreign policy espoused by Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and John Kennedy.

In fact, it is the policies that President George W. Bush has pursued, and that John McCain would continue, that are divorced from that great tradition – and from the legacy of Republican presidents like Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

Sen. Lieberman is right: 9/11 was a pivotal moment. History will judge Mr. Bush's reaction less for the mistakes he made than for the opportunities he squandered.
The president had a historic opportunity to unite Americans and the world in common cause. Instead – by exploiting the politics of fear, instigating an optional war in Iraq before finishing a necessary war in Afghanistan, and instituting policies on torture, detainees and domestic surveillance that fly in the face of our values and interests – Mr. Bush divided Americans from each other and from the world.

At the heart of this failure is an obsession with the "war on terrorism" that ignores larger forces shaping the world: the emergence of China, India, Russia and Europe; the spread of lethal weapons and dangerous diseases; uncertain supplies of energy, food and water; the persistence of poverty; ethnic animosities and state failures; a rapidly warming planet; the challenge to nation states from above and below.

Instead, Mr. Bush has turned a small number of radical groups that hate America into a 10-foot tall existential monster that dictates every move we make.
The intersection of al Qaeda with the world's most lethal weapons is a deadly serious problem. Al Qaeda must be destroyed. But to compare terrorism with an all-encompassing ideology like communism and fascism is evidence of profound confusion.

Terrorism is a means, not an end, and very different groups and countries are using it toward very different goals. Messrs. Bush and McCain lump together, as a single threat, extremist groups and states more at odds with each other than with us: Sunnis and Shiites, Persians and Arabs, Iraq and Iran, al Qaeda and Shiite militias. If they can't identify the enemy or describe the war we're fighting, it's difficult to see how we will win.
The results speak for themselves.

On George Bush's watch, Iran, not freedom, has been on the march: Iran is much closer to the bomb; its influence in Iraq is expanding; its terrorist proxy Hezbollah is ascendant in Lebanon and that country is on the brink of civil war.

Beyond Iran, al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan – the people who actually attacked us on 9/11 – are stronger now than at any time since 9/11. Radical recruitment is on the rise. Hamas controls Gaza and launches rockets at Israel every day. Some 140,000 American troops remain stuck in Iraq with no end in sight.

Because of the policies Mr. Bush has pursued and Mr. McCain would continue, the entire Middle East is more dangerous. The United States and our allies, including Israel, are less secure.
The election in November is a vital opportunity for America to start anew. That will require more than a great soldier. It will require a wise leader.

Here, the controversy over engaging Iran is especially instructive.
Last week, John McCain was very clear. He ruled out talking to Iran. He said that Barack Obama was "naïve and inexperienced" for advocating engagement; "What is it he wants to talk about?" he asked.
Well, for a start, Iran's nuclear program, its support for Shiite militias in Iraq, and its patronage of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.

Beyond bluster, how would Mr. McCain actually deal with these dangers? You either talk, you maintain the status quo, or you go to war. If Mr. McCain has ruled out talking, we're stuck with an ineffectual policy or military strikes that could quickly spiral out of control.

Sen. Obama is right that the U.S. should be willing to engage Iran on its nuclear program without "preconditions" – i.e. without insisting that Iran first freeze the program, which is the very subject of any negotiations. He has been clear that he would not become personally involved until the necessary preparations had been made and unless he was convinced his engagement would advance our interests.

President Nixon didn't demand that China end military support to the Vietnamese killing Americans before meeting with Mao. President Reagan didn't insist that the Soviets freeze their nuclear arsenal before sitting down with Mikhail Gorbachev. Even George W. Bush – whose initial disengagement allowed dangers to proliferate – didn't demand that Libya relinquish its nuclear program, that North Korea give up its plutonium, or even that Iran stop aiding those attacking our soldiers in Iraq before authorizing talks.

The net effect of demanding preconditions that Iran rejects is this: We get no results and Iran gets closer to the bomb.
Equally unwise is the Bush-McCain fixation on regime change. The regime is abhorrent, but their logic defies comprehension: renounce the bomb – and when you do, we're still going to take you down. The result is that Iran accelerated its efforts to produce fissile material.
Instead of regime change, we should focus on conduct change. We should make it very clear to Iran what it risks in terms of isolation if it continues to pursue a dangerous nuclear program but also what it stands to gain if it does the right thing. That will require keeping our allies in Europe, as well as Russia and China, on the same page as we ratchet up pressure.
It also requires a much more sophisticated understanding than Mr. Bush or Mr. McCain seem to possess that by publicly engaging Iran – including through direct talks – we can exploit cracks within the ruling elite, and between Iran's rulers and its people, who are struggling economically and stifled politically.

Iran's people need to know that their government, not the U.S., is choosing confrontation over cooperation. Our allies and partners need to know that the U.S. will go the extra diplomatic mile – if we do, they are much more likely to stand with us if diplomacy fails and force proves necessary.

The Bush-McCain saber rattling is the most self-defeating policy imaginable. It achieves nothing. But it forces Iranians who despise the regime to rally behind their leaders. And it spurs instability in the Middle East, which adds to the price of oil, with the proceeds going right from American wallets into Tehran's pockets.

The worst nightmare for a regime that thrives on tension with America is an America ready, willing and able to engage. Since when has talking removed the word "no" from our vocabulary?

It's amazing how little faith George Bush, Joe Lieberman and John McCain have in themselves – and in America."

GOP Hates American Flag

I wish the reaction to this would be as big as the Obama/flagpin story. From the Huffington Post:

"We all know by now that Barack Obama is not a patriot. After all, he doesn't always wear a flag pin, and he objects to the idea the he should be required to in order to run for office. But who knew that House Minority Leader John Boehner disrespects the flag too?
Obama has been attacked repeatedly for not wearing a flag pin, with Republicans claiming that his patriotism is in question. It's all a bit silly. After all, John McCain hasn't worn a flag since he became the de facto Republican nominee.

But let's grant the inanity for a moment. For a party that is suddenly obsessed with proper deference to the flag, their leaders are pretty clueless. Check out this picture from a press conference with Republican House leaders yesterday.

Notice anything off? If you're a bit of a flag-o-phile, you might recognize that the flag is hanging the wrong way. According to the document "Our Flag," (pdf) printed under approval of Senate Concurrent Resolution 108, Chapter 6.i:
"When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window, the flag should be displayed in the same way, with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street."

The correct position is displayed below, as well as a shot of the Democratic leadership showing due deference to the American flag.
So Boehner -- aka the GOP's newest commie pinko -- allowed the American flag to fly incorrectly throughout his press conference. At least Obama's flag pin is a replica; the Republicans disgraced the actual flag.
Silly? Unbelievably. As is the whole issue."

You Must Wait 30 Minutes After Eating Before Swimming
If at any time in your life you've had food in your hand near a swimming pool, you've heard this myth. You cannot swim until you've waited at least 30 minutes.
For some families, the more harsh "hour" rule was used. If you broke the rule, the implication was that you would get cramps, be unable to swim, drown, and die. This rule seemed to apply even if you stayed on the shallow end. According to this statistic, unlike air, water-to-skin contact has magical properties that cause the food in your belly to explode unless it is past a certain point in your digestive track.

Why Is It a Load of Crap?
Because you're not a Gremlin. As you may have already guessed, water does not, in fact, bear properties that form a cramp of death, should you get in the water after eating. Getting into the water after eating will have no more effect on your body than going for a walk.
In fact, the movement of your body in the water, particularly if you are just a little kid with floaties on, is more restricted than that of a typical walk. Granted, if you were to swim rigorously for exercise, you wouldn't want to jump in the pool and start swimming lines right after a big bowl of Chili unless your goal is to chum for some sharks with your mouth.

Who Started It?
This one actually comes from an old wives tale that slowly became popular over the years. Supposedly, your stomach is using oxygen to digest food that your muscles need to swim. In actuality, the amount of oxygen your body needs to swim is more than satisfied, whether or not you've eaten recently.

Who Was Fooled?
This cutesy little kids site is one of many offering swimming tips that still buys into the old "wait 30 minutes" rule.
These lies aren't without their consequences. What happens when they find out the 30 minute statistic is false. Doesn't that suggest that the other stuff on the page must be false, too? A horseplay revolution could arise, complete with much more serous acts of rebellions like kids diving in the shallow end, swimming during electrical storms and thinking they could stay under water longer by biting fart bubbles.

Barack Obama Leaves His Church. Who Can Blame Him?

More news today on Barack Obama's church, he announced that he's leaving it. He said this in a letter to Trinity United Church, "I have to say--this is one I did not see coming. I did not anticipate my fairly conventional Christian faith being subjected to such...scrutiny." I mean, who can blame him? Just this week, another video came out of another controversial sermon. This time it's by Father Michael Pfleger, who mocked Hillary Clinton and her tears in New Hampshire back in January:

To be honest, this is not even close to the Rev. Wright story. At least with Wright, people can make an argument that Obama was in that church for 20 years. Wright made much more inflammatory statements about the this country and race. With Father Pfleger, he was a guest speaker at that church and I suppose his comments were only offensive to Hillary Clinton. I really don't see the big deal on this issue, and I think it's just going to be used as another excuse to vote against him when people don't want to admit that race is the real issue.

According to the LA Times this month, while the number of Americans being spied on and having their records reviewed have risen, the number of prosecutions reaching the courts have declined. The article is a must-read and very alarming. It's just so damn scary and shows that the Government's claims on "terrorists threats" are greatly exaggerated most of the time. Now, I obviously do believe that there's terrorists out there that want to kill us, but there's no excuse for spying on Americans if no results are produced. If only more Americans were aware that our civil liberties are being trampled for "security". Just remember this quote (misattributed to Benjamin Franklin, but important nonetheless):

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"

Last week, the Democratic debate on ABC was widely panned across the media and blogosphere. Now I'm not complaining because Obama had his worst performance on TV, because he did. He was on the defensive for the entire 90 minutes. And he deserves to be asked tough questions like any other candidate.
But the ENTIRE first half of the debate was on issues that don't matter. The voters don't care about Bosnia sniper stories, or lapel pins, or Rev. Wright, or some radical from the 60's, or the "bitter" comments. Not only were these issues old news, but nothing new came from asking these questions AGAIN in the debate. Not ONE question was about education, or the constitution, or the environment. 45 minutes passed before any sort of policy question was asked. Obama's thoughts on the debate can be read HERE.
Also, the Clinton camp was accusing Obama of whining and not being able to stand the heat. Firstly, if I remember clearly, it was Hillary and Bill who were whining just a few months ago about media bias and bringing up the SNL skit. And all Obama complained about was the lack of policy questions in first 45 minutes of the debate.
The Huffington Post had an analysis of the debate and found that ABC asked the most scandal questions with Obama being asked scandal questions 17-4.

John McCain announced his plan to suspend the 18.4-cent gas tax for the whole summer. He said that it would stimulate the economy. Um, no it won't. Not only would it encourage gasoline use when we should be moving towards energy independence, but as First Read points out:

"The 18.4-cent gas tax goes into a Highway Trust Fund, which pays for roads, bridges, subways, etc. So there's a legitimate policy question here: If you suspend that tax, what are you doing to an already-deteriorating infrastructure system? (After all, remember that bridge collapse in Minneapolis/St. Paul, where interestingly the GOP convention takes place in September.)

The Wall Street Journal's Stephen Power also raises this question about suspending the gas tax: "Relief — or fewer jobs? According to a white paper circulated on Capitol Hill last week by the U.S. Transportation Department, every $1 billion of federal highway investment supports 34,779 jobs. Many economists have also questioned the wisdom of suspending or cutting gas taxes; doing so, they say, simply stimulates more consumption of gasoline."
Asked for a response, McCain spokesman Brian Rogers emails First Read, "Sen. McCain believes that general revenue transfers should be made to offset the impact on the transportation fund."

Matthew Jeanneret, a spokesman for the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, tells First Read that suspending the federal gas tax for three months could cost $9 billion from the federal highway trust fund. And if that lost $9 billion is replaced by general Treasury revenues, that will increase the size of the deficit. "It might be good politics," Jeanneret says of the McCain measure. "But it is shortsighted, and it won't do anything to stimulate the economy.""

Last week, Barack Obama was asked whether he would investigate Bush Administration officials after the news that torture was approved and discussed by high-profile officials. Here's his answer:

"What I would want to do is to have my Justice Department and my Attorney General immediately review the information that's already there and to find out are there inquiries that need to be pursued. I can't prejudge that because we don't have access to all the material right now. I think that you are right, if crimes have been committed, they should be investigated. You're also right that I would not want my first term consumed by what was perceived on the part of Republicans as a partisan witch hunt because I think we've got too many problems we've got to solve.
So this is an area where I would want to exercise judgment -- I would want to find out directly from my Attorney General -- having pursued, having looked at what's out there right now -- are there possibilities of genuine crimes as opposed to really bad policies. And I think it's important-- one of the things we've got to figure out in our political culture generally is distinguishing betyween really dumb policies and policies that rise to the level of criminal activity. You know, I often get questions about impeachment at town hall meetings and I've said that is not something I think would be fruitful to pursue because I think that impeachment is something that should be reserved for exceptional circumstances. Now, if I found out that there were high officials who knowingly, consciously broke existing laws, engaged in coverups of those crimes with knowledge forefront, then I think a basic principle of our Constitution is nobody above the law -- and I think that's roughly how I would look at it."

The word shit appeared about 1,000 years ago and can be traced back to Old Norse origin ’skíta’. It first leaked into Old English as ’scitte’ and from there forming into Middle English as ’sch?tte.’ Anglo-Saxon books use ’scittan’ as a reference to when the cattle had diarrhea. For most of its history it was spelled ’shite’ though evidence of its now modern spelling can be found in books dated as far back as the mid-1700’s. The word fuck, much like shit (and actually the majority of common curse words), came from languages with a Germanic background. "PetroSun announced that Rio Hondo, the algae farm from Texas just began production. This plant is the first facility from PetroSun that will produce algae for biofuels. The algae farm has 1,100 acres of saltwater ponds, which the company estimates to produce at least 110 million pounds of biomass and 4.4 million gallons of algae oil per annum.

The plant will be further expanded to meet the demands of PetroSun’s ethanol and biodiesel refineries. They have plans even to build additional farms in the Gulf Coast if this one proves successful. Gordon LeBlanc Jr., CEO of PetroSun stated that the business model focused on demonstrating the feasibility of the algae-to-biofuels technology the company uses.
The current feedstocks used for converting to biodiesel and ethanol can be outperformed by microalgae, which also, unlike the rest, do not impact on the fresh water resources or the consumable food markets."

Barack Obama has been under fire for more than a week because of his "bitter" comments. McCain and Clinton (she pretty much is a Republican now) have been attacking him. They've called him "elitist" and "out of touch". His response is HERE. Here are his comments that have gotten attention:

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

The fact is that people are bitter! What, are they happy? Are they happy that 47 million people don't have health care? Are they satisfied about the war? Or about climate change? Are they happy that jobs are going overseas? Are they content about the fact that our constitution is being trampled and the executive branch is expanding it's power? Do they like the direction this country is going? Are they better off today than they were 7 years ago? The American people ARE bitter, they ARE angry. And what makes them angrier is that politicians rather talk about distractions and bullshit issues than things that actually affect people's lives.

Barack Obama isn't out of touch or an "elitist" . He wasn't born rich. He didn't inherit his money. He worked hard to get where he is today. He chose to work as a community organizer and aid in improving poor neighborhoods.

Many even criticize him for going to Harvard Law and being an "intellectual". Yeah, because being educated is such a bad thing. That's one attack on liberals that I don't understand. In 2000 and 2004, Gore and Kerry were TOO SMART. They knew TOO MUCH. They weren't dumb asses like Bush. Because of course, it's perfectly logical to want a President that would want to have a beer with you, rather than know how to govern, secure, and lead a nation.

And when Barack was talking about "clinging to guns or religion", he wasn't attacking people's faith or right to bear arms. He wasn't criticizing lifestyles. He was referring to political issues and how people vote. He was saying that when voters don't think their economic situations were going to change, they rely on wedge issues like gay marriage, prayer in schools, immigration, or gun control. And it's true. Thanks to Karl Rove in 2000 and 2004, the issues that doomed the Dems weren't the economy or war. It was patriotism, religion, and "moral values".

The fact is that his comments were true and many aren't offended by it.

By the way, in 1991, Bill Clinton said, "The reason (George H. W. Bush's tactic) works so well now is that you have all these economically insecure white people who are scared to death." And Hillary Clinton said this about working class whites in 1995, "Screw 'em. You don't owe them a thing, Bill. They're doing nothing for you; you don't have to do anything for them."

The truth is this: America is mad as hell, and isn't going to take it anymore!!!

Condi As VP? I Say: Go For It

There was news a couple of weeks ago that Condoleezza Rice was being considered as John McCain's running mate (though she denied she's running for that position). Some Dems might get a little nervous because she might take black votes from Obama and blunt the impact of Obama's historic candidacy with the GOP's own historic ticket. But I think Rice as the VP nominee would be a good thing for the Democrats in November. What else could tie McCain to the Bush Administration more than picking the State Secretary as his running mate? He matter as well include DICK Cheney and Karl Rove in his campaign too. The word CHANGE would be even more powerful along with the phrase "Bush's Third Term". McCain, who is one the strongest supporters of the Iraq War, would be paired with one of the architects of the War and probably the worst Secretary of State in US History. Both of them would be running against a young, inspirational, anti-war, "change" candidate. All of this as McCain is trying to be the "straight talker" and "maverick" to appeal to independents and Democrats.

So if you want to pick Condi as your running mate, please do so.

It'll be fun.

"I Believe In Harvey Dent" UPDATE

There's been more "Dark Knight" news this week. Firstly, there's a new viral site called the Maiden Avenue Report (their version of the Drudge Report). It reports that Harvey Dent (who later becomes Two-Face), is losing the race for District Attorney. So, today on the I Believe In Harvey Dent site, there was a "press conference" at 3 pm. It turned out to be a hostage situation with Dent getting himself involved by saving the hostages and negotiating with the gunman. The audio is HERE. I think that Dent staged the incident to win the DA race (which he wins anyway because he's DA in the film).

Secondly, there's been news involving some scenes with Heath Ledger as the Joker. There's been word that test-screening audiences haven't reacted well to one scene in the film, where the Joker plays dead in a body bag and then emerges. So rumors spread that Warner Bros. will cut the scene because of Ledger's death. I really don't see the big deal in this and I really hoped that the movie is kept intact. But there's good news. According to THIS website, an insider says, "I KNOW for a fact that that scene is in the film. I also know that WB has made no such mandate and that Chris [Nolan] is honest when saying that he will not change what was intended with The Joker."

I hope that's true.

This week, the blogosphere was buzzing about a picture on the White House website showing DICK Cheney smiling at something. Looking at the reflection on his sunglasses, it looks like a nude woman (Lynn Cheney?!). The Vice-President's office responded though saying, "Clearly the picture shows a hand casting a rod." You be the judge. Is Cheney enjoying a riverside lap dance, or simply holding his rod? Also, here's a hilarious segment on "Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann" on this mystery.

Colin Powell Praises Obama

From ABC News: "Returning to presidential politics, Powell condemned controversial remarks by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor of 20 years, as "deplorable" but complimented the Democratic candidate for his speech on race that followed in the aftermath. "Rev. Wright is also somebody who has made enormous contributions in his community and has turned a lot of lives around," Powell said, "And so, I have to put that in context with these very offensive comments that he made, which I reject out of hand."
Powell added that he does not know Wright, and praised Obama's response.
"I think that Sen. Obama handled the issue well . . . he didn't look the other way. He didn't wait for the, for the, you know, for the storm to go over. He went on television, and I thought, gave a very, very thoughtful, direct speech. And he didn't abandon the minister who brought him closer to his faith," Powell told Sawyer.
Powell, who has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate in almost every election since he retired from military service and public life, expressed admiration for Obama.
"It was a good (speech)," Powell said. "I admired him for giving it. And I agreed with much of what he said.""

A Powell endorsement in around September or October would be powerful, especially against McCain.

Iraqi Government To U.S: Withdraw

The AP reported this week that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki disagreed with General Petraeus' proposal to delay troop withdrawals. Al-Maliki said that "Iraqi security forces are capable of carrying out their duties and U.S. troops should be pulled out as the situation permits..." Then why the hell are we still there? THE SOVEREIGN GOVERNMENT OF IRAQ WANTS US TO LEAVE!! IT"S THEIR COUNTRY!! What sort of bullshit response is Bush/Cheney going to give us now? We no longer have any reason whatsoever to stay. This contradicts several statements by Bush and the GOP that we will withdraw when the Iraqis ask us to.

Example #1: The New York Times, 1/28/05- "President Bush said in an interview on Thursday that he would withdraw American forces from Iraq if the new government that is elected on Sunday asked him to do so, but that he expected Iraq's first democratically elected leaders would want the troops to remain as helpers, not as occupiers... But asked if, as a matter of principle, the United States would pull out of Iraq at the request of a new government, he said: "Absolutely. This is a sovereign government. They're on their feet."
Some members of the administration had made similar pledges, but this was the first time Mr. Bush did so."

Example #2: Politico.com, 5/16/07- "Some key Republican supporters of President Bush's Iraq war policy said this week that if the Iraqi parliament calls for the withdrawal of U.S. troops, their position could change dramatically...Asked about a possible vote on a bill asking U.S. forces to leave, McConnell said: "I want to assure you, if they vote to ask us to leave, we'll be glad to comply with their request.""

Example #3: International Herald Tribune, 11/30/06- President Bush: "We're going to stay in Iraq to get the job done so long as the government wants us there."
